Soon ater the devastating earthquake in Haiti, safety and security consultant Hal Lowder joined forces with several ministries and businesses to provide relief for Earthquake victims in Haiti. Eagle Watch Ministries was founded by Hal Lowder as a non profit missions and ministry organization. Hal started this ministry with the desire to see lives changed by the power and truth of God’s word. The primary purpose of this organization is sharing our part in the responsibility and privilege of propagating the Gospel of Jesus Christ by all available means, both at home and in foreign lands. Eagle Watch Ministries was formed out of Hal’s desire to comfort those in need during their time of crisis. Hal normally provides consulting, security and emergency management resources after a catastrophe to help businesses mitigate damage and maintain business continuity. Hal has partnered several ministries and businesses to form a coalition of catastrophe responders. “I had several people contact me, knowing of our other responses to Katrina, Rita, Wilma and other disasters and said that besides giving money, they actually wanted to do more, so we put together this group.” Eagle Watch has a contact with a Pastor in Haiti that has trucks, warehouses and staff that we can get these items into. Clearances to get into the country have also been done. “What we have found out is that if we have someone on the ground ready to run with this stuff, we can avoid the bottleneck at the airport and get this stuff straight from the plane to the field. Right now our immediate goal is to get water, medical supplies, survival blankets and other survival supplies on the ground. We have a warehouse here and several drop off points.” This is a long term relationship with this group in Haiti. We want to keep them alive for now, but help teach them to recover. Lowder says, “we are using the special forces small force tactic: we want to insert a small team that is cross trained in medical, security, rescue and problem solving that will be able to instruct and help train the missionaries on the ground to work as first responders.” “We will have to pack our own food and water in, so teams will have to be small to be mobile, self sufficient and must able to multi-task.” Lowder also adds that this is the worst that he has ever seen. “Our Pastor on the ground has schools, churches and orphanages and they have bodies trapped in the rubble and are trying to dig with shovels and their hands.” Hal recently returned from Haiti to survey the damage. Hal and Logistics Expert Chief Phil Chovan returned from Haiti after being on the ground and the impact on them was so great that Hal has decided to commit his ministry to Haiti for the next five years. “Our initial mission was to assess the area and needs of the people we are helping in Haiti. At this time we have a Pastor on the ground that has 35 churches that have all been destroyed. We are looking at establishing immediate plans for return as well as long term plans.” The team was able to tour several of the churches, schools and facilities the church operates. At this time, the immediate needs are attempting to stabilize newborns and mothers. “We have newborns and mothers sleeping on asphalt. The mothers are having problems because of dehydration, dysentery and are not able to provide mother’s milk.” “I have 3 children that I am concerned about until we return that may not make it until we return, states Lowder. We are praying that they can stay alive until we get back.” I wanted to stay, but we ran out of supplies, so it is better that I am here to coordinate the return trip.” Our first goal is to get a military tent, revival tent or some shelter to get these kids out of the sun. It was in the 90’s and the mothers had no water. Both Chovan and Lowder were amazed at the devastation. Between them they have nearly 60 years in emergency management and combat experience and they both stated that this was the worst of anything either has seen. Both stated that their lives changed dramatically from this trip. “We need to get back and get this clinic established so that some of these children may live.” The devastation was so great that at times it took 4 hours to travel 4 miles. “The large agencies are having problems moving services away and into the field. Some of the smaller teams like us are moving lighter, faster. The large organizations are like trying to ParallelPark a tractor-trailer. It can be done; it just takes a little time to move something that large.” We are also working on larger, long term items that would be carried in by ship. We need everything from a skid loader, backhoe to dig out bodies to shovels to basic needs for the long haul. Our biggest problem is finding aircraft to insert our teams and equipment. We do have some resources, but that means trucking it to Florida, and cargo planes are not cheap. Long term plans are to insert mission workers, EMT’s, rescue personnel and emergency responders to do a short tour to assist and train about basic medical care and water purification. Hal also has ties to Haiti, “my dad worked and lived there for several years in the apparel industry.” Hal has experience from Hurricane Hugo to Katrina and has worked in medical missions in Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, floods and other natural catastrophes as well as the Persian Gulf. Eagle Watch Ministries came about after Hal retired from public service and formed his Safety and Security Consulting business. During Hurricane Katrina, Hal and his staff were hired to provide security, consulting and catastrophe business continuity services for a large hospital in New Orleans. After working hard 12 hour shifts, they spent their off time providing help, food, and water, restoring property and ministering to the community. It was during this time that we realized that our business was becoming a workplace ministry. When the earthquake hit Haiti in 2010, we began to donate our resources to a ministry in Haiti .God began to work and provide for us to begin our ministry as a domestic non profit corporation; birthing Eagle Watch Ministries. One of the activities of this organization is to follow Christ's command by going to the aid of the poor, sick, and suffering. We are an effective means of reaching hurting people with food, medicine, aid, shelter and other assistance in the Name of Jesus Christ. This, in turn, earns us a hearing for the Gospel. Our emergency relief programs provide desperately needed assistance to victims of natural disasters and catastrophes. As we offer food, water, and temporary shelter, we meet critical needs and give people a chance to rebuild their lives. We provide pre-hospital treatment in the Name of the Great Physician through our first responders, EMT’s, Paramedics and other medical professionals, as well as supplying mission hospitals with much needed equipment and supplies. Eagle Watch Ministries is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people. This is accomplished by utilizing volunteer EMT’s, Paramedics, First Responders, Firefighters, Nurses and other emergency responders to respond to natural disasters, catastrophes and other emergencies to provide pre-hospital care, triage and other forms of assistance in times of need to minister to the victims of these catastrophes. Our cadre of volunteers also includes emergency managers, logistics specialists, transportation specialists, construction specialists, disaster mitigation specialists and other specialized fields dedicated to catastrophe response.
